Interesting article, but was that stupid, presumably AI generated, picture really necessary?

Linux@lemmy.ml•my reason why you should use KDE+Krohnkite instead of WMs
8·15 days agoNow that you ‘get it’, can you explain to someone like me who still doesn’t get it, why they might want to use a tiling wm?

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•anyone have a sheet music system/workflow that works?English
6·25 days agoGive each person a folder in which to stick whatever loose sheets they are currently working with. Keep these folders plus whatever music books are relevant on a shelf. Tell each person to put their shit away when they are done.
There can be another folder for sheets people fail to put away. Your wife can just stick everything left out into this folder when stuff gets left out and she gets annoyed. People will learn they have to look through all the shit in this folder to find their stuff if they leave their stuff out.

11·1 month agoOn general principle, I don’t watch videos that use these kinds of clickbait tactics.
Why are you so intent in me watching the video, while avoiding answering my question? Is it your channel?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Is it so hard to get Nvidia GPUs working with Linux?
2·1 month agoThere should be no trouble getting it to work, there may however be a slight chance of it breaking on an update, at least with some rolling distros, if you use the proprietary drivers, which you’ll want to use it you care about performance.
The drivers need to be compatible with the kernel. In rare cases a kernel update will not be compatible with the nvidia driver and could get installed before the nvidia update has dropped. This is possible for openSUSE Tumbleweed for example because the nvidia drivers come from an nvidia managed repo that can get behind the official repos. Just being conservative about waiting a few days before applying kernel updates, especially for a significant version change, and checking the forums for people having problem is enough to avoid this problem.

I’ve never had a mouse not work on Linux. But you can boot from a thumb drive image to see what hardware is working.

3·3 months agoI’ve never used it, but one should also ask a what kind of 90 degree rotation does it do. Good image editors can do lossless 90 degree JPEG rotation, meaning they don’t compound the JPEG lossiness and potential artifacts every time.
I guess the stawman of ‘most FOSS advocates’ could be anything, but attributing ‘free as in beer’ to FOSS, taking it from their slogan ‘free as in freedom NOT free as in beer’ is beyond stupid.

12·3 months agoIt seems like getting caught having tried to obscure your fingerprints would be bad. How does one fill them in without it looking like you have a mess of glue on your fingers? Is there some technique for making it smooth so that you don’t produce prints that look obviously messed with?
They definitely want your photo. They will photograph / scan your face everytime you fly.
