Wouldn’t this fall under existing “Right To Be Forgotten”/privacy rules in the EU??
I mean, you don’t have to be a local user to use the search functions on any of the more established instances. I can easilly see search being one of the more taxing functions for smaller servers.
On that note, I’ve found the built-in lemmy search function to be amazingly thorough, fast, and useful. You can search content from all communities, not just the ones on your instance, search comments, sort by date, what-have-you.
lemmyverse.net - community search
Its not so easy for a user to screw-up that partition. Same things that would do it in Linux would do it in Windows.
Sounds like a hardware issue, so …
I would be more interested in themed favicon sets like on Android or Linux DE’s, and any way that would avoid Google or lock-in/forced updates to such as with the Play store or Windows I would avoid like the plague.
Gimme back .dll’s full of icons I can create and edit to my liking. For modernization, meta-text(url or application name) for each icon instead of referencing “icon #x in this .dll”, and a format more usefull than .dll’s full of icons that all have to be the same size(and .tiff, .giff, or bitmaps at that, when jpeg and vector formats exist), but that’s about it.
All this re-inventing-the-wheel/web2.0/3.0 shit is geared towards creating dependency and lock-in in the stupidest ways possible.
Such NSFW images and videos aren’t hosted on other instances. Not mine, and not yours, sadly.
I seem to remember only <7 instances allowing porn posts when I joined up. As a practical matter, I don’t remember the last time I saw porn posted from any instance besides lemmynsfw.com
TL;DR: Porn on Lemmy is as centralized and easilly squashed by regulation as anywhere else.
“rightfully”, yuck … Personally, I would rather put an un-modified sysem in an appropriately shaped and vented drawer, but I could see the temptation to mod the case into it once the decision was made to go with a bespoke/modified piece of furniture.
The difference between workable and non-workable usually boils down to whether I can understand each step and how they arrived at their solution(that is, can I fix my own fuck-up if I miss a step or impliment it wrong for my own situation), which I will know pretty quickly. That said, with my limitted knowlege, I can still spot the 50% that have no chance in hell of working pretty quickly.
OTOH, if a solution is succinct, upvoted, and still looks wrong, I’m at least going to look into the problem further with that as a reference point before I write it off completely.

Basically, if the app developers bother to maintain their own repository, there is no reason for other f-droid repositories to waste storage and bandwidth on duplicating them and constantly checking to be sure its the latest versions of those apps that have been copied. This is a feature, not a bug, in systems like f-droid.
That said, f-droid could stand to add a directory for known-good repositories, or listings for apps that pull from such repositories without requiring you or I to manually type in a url or scan a QR code, but end of the day, its free softwaree maintained by volunteers.
Many apps on Linux work the same way; However, in my experience, once you’ve downloaded and installed an application’s .deb, tar.gz, whatever, it will offer to add its repositories to your package manager’s sources, whereas on Android, once you install an .apk, it stays that version until you install a newer version manually or let the Play store or whatever over-write it.
Bye now.
You don’t know shit. My search turned up nothing more concrete than your own apeing of the plaintiff’s claims as though those were evidence, so I didn’t bother.
Meanwhile, the subject at hand quite literally revolves around Steam and Steam-Keys. We don’t even have to get into third-party distribution without Steam-Keys to disprove your argument, although that market also remains alive and well as ever.
The rest was just me matching your energy, but I’m not exaggerating when I say I should have just blocked your belligerent ass a while ago. You can’t be bothered to prove your own points, yet keep pretending to be the most “mature” and “focused” person here. It’s painful to watch the trolling this far off the rails.
You honestly think I didn’t do a google search before reading the two relavent articles reachable from the OP? Nothing I found, nor the fact that I regularly buy games/steam!keys cheaper than via steam, meshes with the plaintiff’s claims.
Telling others to act like grown-ups while accepting un-founded claims that happen to reflect your argument at face-value, how very mature of you.
The allegations of the plaintiff are not necessarilly the written or enforced policies of the defendant. Please consider linking something of substance when accusing others of being un-serious/insincere.
You made a claim without linking to it in the first place. Its not my job to substantiate your arguments.
Sure. Not being able to sell literal Steam keys on other platforms for less on other platforms for less according to the terms is the same as being prevented from selling on other platforms for less at all, nevermind that Valve gets a 0% cut on Steam Key Sales made like so.
Also, there is no mention of said policy in either the OP article, nor the separate article about the lawsuit it links to.
Oh shit, there are sets of more pics after the “Continue Reading” folds that only show up when you tap either of the pictures.
Did you pay someone for this sad excuse for a web-page? Was there supposed to be an end to the “How much” sentence? How much here is AI slop, or are you even slightly serious? I’m not even trying to be rude, but this post practically begged for all those down-votes as-is.
