It sounds like you’re thinking there is no way to compete with Reddit. If you charge, people will use Reddit. If you have ads, people will use Reddit. People are only here because there aren’t ads and it’s free?
I’m not sure if this Mason guy is being serious or not
If you charge, you also have to offer a better experience than the free options. There’s no reason instances can’t use ads for people unwilling or unable to pay. For me I’ll gladly pay for an ad-free experience.
That’s not really how it works. If it was made to work that way, it would still be a relatively small group donating their own compute resources to subsidize everyone else. Which is what we already have, and isn’t very scalable.
The only real option is to charge people.
Hosting isn’t free. It costs money to run a website. That money needs to come from somewhere. If it doesn’t come from advertisers, it must come from users.
There could be a verity options for that. But I like the simple annual subscription. Each and every user pays. Spread out the cost as much as possible. It’s only fair.
Pretty much, more or less, yah.
And the driver would be free to make that argument to defend themselves in the law suit.
The driver is responsible for the damage their vehicle causes. It doesn’t matter if they did something illegal or not. If the article is accurate, nobody should be arrested. But the driver would be civilly liable for the death of the kid.
It’s a real question. As an XRay tech I get paid $29.90/hr. That’s the real value of my work right now. Assuming I have the money available, if the cost is less than that, it makes sense for me to pay to not have to do it.
You did skip the whole “paying yourself” part though. How much is your work worth?
There is the added warming you get from the sun, when the snow doesn’t build up. You loose that if you wait for the storm to be over.
Think about how much you’d want to be paid per hour and how many hours it would take to clear 14" of snow. Compare that to the $26.33 it cost this guy. Seems cheep to me.
Not really. You’re thinking of using it to clear 10-14" of snow that’s already built up. But with the street being kept just above freezing during the snowstorm, the snow hitting the street will melt immediately, never sticking to begin with.
And since you only need 5° or so above freezing, it takes less energy than you might think to keep it there.
These are E-bikes. Some are practically low power motorcycles. All that is also true for motorcycles, they have to obey traffic signals.
These are E-bikes we’re talking about. They can be quite fast. Some can do 50-60 even. Killing people is certainly possible. Requiring both to obey traffic signals, isn’t unreasonable.
This is coming from a guy who walks downstairs to work?
Tell me some reporter in the room pointed this out.
They’re currently at the top of a long list that needs to be reminded of that.
“Might have”. It’s an alternate explanation that’s plausible.
We don’t know it’s a lie. We only read an article. We weren’t there.
If that’s not what happened, it’s the prosecutions job to prove it in court.
As again “It’s better for the guilty to go free, than the innocent be punished.”
Look for Signage Displays. They’re basically TVs with different software.
