  • This is my second season cycling. I live in an extremely hilly area and last season I got to where I could climb the steep hills without getting out and pushing about halfway through the season, but long and gradual hills absolutely murdered me. This season I started tackling some long gradual hills

    Honestly you have to play with the gearing to find what works well for you on hills. Higher gears spin harder but put down more power, lower gears spin easier but put down less power. Best is to be in the highest gear you can sustain. Personally I never touch the lower half of my gears because there’s just too much leg spin and I tire myself for nothing.

    Eventually you’ll get to where you can stand on the pedals while at a low cadence for extra power (useful on hills or with a trailer. When I have my kids behind me by butt basically never touches the saddle) but ultimately it’s something that takes building muscle and practice to get comfortable


  • That was Logan Paul, and actually the Paul brothers’ antics actually greatly delayed Pewd’s immigration as the Japanese government actually stopped granting new visas to any social media personalitiws for some time after the Paul incidents.

    If I remember correctly he wasn’t able to immigrate until mid-2020 thanks to the Paul Borthers’ lack of respect for anyone







  • My wife was a PewDiePie fan from before the slur incident so I’ve loosely seen some of his content over the years. He’s apologized multiple times, and he’s shifted his style significantly multiple times since then.

    Basically in the last few years he’s grown up a ton. He married his girlfriend of a decade or more after earlier refusing marriage, had a baby, emigrated to Japan and now posts tons of creative and day-in-the-life style vlogs


  • LBRY is cool but I’m honestly sketched out by the creators that currently exist there. It’s mostly weird libertarians and crypto bros plus random porn bots. Also between the first and most recent times I played with it they added a CDN that hosts all of the files and something like 99% of the data I downloaded while farting around on there came from that single official CDN, so very decentralized.

    Peertube has actual large creators who aren’t weird conservative podcasters, and tons of different servers already which serve content, and great Mastadon integration which puts it in a much better spot for growth moving forwards than LBRY. You can literally watch peertube videos from Mastadon (Which has millions of active users including some celebrities and government officials) and comment on them from Mastadon, so there’s kinda already a userbase measured in millions depending on how you classify cross-fediverse users


  • solutions need to look like “40% fewer cars on the road” sorts of things if we want to actually accomplish anything at all.

    I think the worst part with this is that this can be achieved overnight be mandating remote work for office workers. We already know exactly what the impacts of remote work are because the entire white collar workforce went remote 5 years ago. Let’s do that ASAP because the only people who don’t benefit from remote work are commercial real estate investors

    My imagined legislation would impose a new commute tax on businesses with office workers working in office. This tax would be proportional to the number of office workers, and would be introduced alongside a new tax incentive for remote office workers. If the office worker is permitted to work remotely 4 workdays a week the tax break effectively zeros out the commute tax cost for that worker. 3 days a week reduces the commute tax break by 3/4 for that worker, etc. Force shitty bosses to pay for their anti-worker RTO plans. The tax income would be directly applied to road and public transit infrastructure since the significantly reduced rush hour traffic would change traffic patterns and we all know how road maintenance has been struggling for funding on recent decades


  • Some newer diesel engines have features where they can reduce down to only running a single cylinder when parked/idling to keep the electrics running as expected to greatly reduce fuel consumption and emissions while idling which might help as that trickles into fleets

    But yeah in reality these service trucks should be smaller electric vehicles for local delivery, or even better they should be electric trains pulling power directly from the grid. Heck I’ll even take diesel electric trucks with a pantograph to use power from an overhead wire instead of burning Diesel while in cities. Imagine if our roads had big networks of overhead wire to power trucks and buses from! Imagine if every hill on a highway had a section of overhead wire for trucks to power themselves off of while climbing. Realistically every transit mix will require some amount of trucks and buses so we might as well minimize their impact while we imagine a better world
