If China was the only country in the world that burned coal, but they exclusively burned coal, and everybody else was on solar panels the world would still be an infinitely better place and it is right now. Not doing something just because other people also aren’t doing it just ensures that nobody does anything.

It was vague in that it didn’t really explain what it was asking to happen, and didn’t really make the distinction between a product being technically still functional and a product not working because the servers have shut down. While at the same time being too specifically focused on games rather than server run software in general. What happens if Adobe goes down, does everyone lose access to photoshop?

I just feel that this has a better chance of succeeding if they were to de-emphasize the games aspect, and allow politicians the wiggle run to focus on the corporate business side of things.

If I pay something to, Acme financial services LLC, you have no idea what that really is. They could make boxes, sports equipment, that could be an escort agency, you don’t know. Pretty much every adult store is not going to have Sex Toys R Us, as their account name.

The bank doesn’t know what people pay for, or who it goes to, they just know what account you paid into. They would have to go through and verify who owns the account and that’s not an automatic process. Finding out the actual person or company behind an account requires effort, so unless there’s some investigation that involves that bank account, they won’t have that information.

I’m sure the most rigorous of data safety standards will be followed. After all they’re being forced to do this I’m sure they won’t take the cheapest possible route. Oh definitely not.

Well it’s been monitored by ofcom who we all know are the last word in inefficiency, corruption, and stupidity so I’m going to go ahead and guess that they’re just going to say they’re doing checks, and Ofcom just not going to check.

I hope the wording of the petition is very clear. The last time this was brought up in the UK the government of the time basically just brushed it off by intentionally misunderstanding the petition. You can’t give them any leeway to do that this time.

That’s actually a bit of a myth you know. Labour in China used to be dirt cheap 30 years ago but that’s not the case now. You need experts to build cars and they demand an appropriate salary. They probably don’t get paid as much as they would in the west but they’re not being paid pennies an hour either. However the idea that China is cheap has persisted.

There’s a reason that Apple doesn’t make the iPhone there anymore. It was getting too expensive ie they were being asked to pay for a decent wage, and they weren’t prepared to.
