I’d probably go for a mini PC, like one from System76. It does have Linux on it (Pop_OS!), but I think you could manage with that in particular.

Games@lemmy.world•Are there any good 3D Nintendo FAN made games?English
2·7 days agoI’ve played some romhacks, so I get that part too. Otherwise, fan-made projects or romhacks would be much better nowadays than the slop that’s made today.
There’s a lot of undisclosed AI usage in modern games, and they won’t tell us in any storefront that doesn’t require AI disclosure.

7·7 days agoEmulating the classics, or playing them on real hardware might be the way to go, and not getting things like a Switch 2 or later (maybe a Switch, since you seemingly own the games you have in those cartridges, and not some DRM-heavy license where the developers will revoke it at any one time).

1·9 days agoMy only other concern is with the publisher, B-site (as it’s called in China, though I’m not from there). Otherwise, it doesn’t look that bad, despite being a top-down shooter instead of an FPS like Tarkov is.

62·9 days agoI sure as heck hope they allow Linux (basically, no ACE or anything of the sort). If they do, and the game’s free, I’ll check this sucker out to spite the Tarkov devs.

PC Master Race@lemmy.world•Laptop suggestions. [Budget friendly, NPU?, Linux friendly, AMD?]English
1·9 days agoI’d probably just save a little for them, and once you invest enough for a powerful enough machine, then I’d purchase it with a little bit of money left. That’s how I’d do it, though your mileage may vary.

PC Master Race@lemmy.world•Laptop suggestions. [Budget friendly, NPU?, Linux friendly, AMD?]English
2·10 days agoI’d take a look at something like System76 with their stuff, or potentially something like Tuxedo. If you want Linux pre-installed on a laptop, look for stuff that already has is supported OOTB.
Of course, there are people refurbishing laptops and slapping Linux on them, as many ThinkPads and similar devices from Lenovo are getting Linux slapped on there. I’d stick with Mint, Pop_OS!, CachyOS, or Nobara Project, unless you want X11/XLibre by default. If XLibre by default, there are many distros that are implementing it instead of XOrg’s implementation of X11.

Games@lemmy.world•BattleBit Remastered is surprisingly alive - a huge Operation Overhaul update test arrives in NovemberEnglish
13·13 days agoThat’s called a dark pattern, which I don’t fall for all that often. I’d just take the F2P route, and I wouldn’t care if I missed out on something where I’d shell out real money for it.

17·13 days agoThe review said it was likely to become P2W, and I thought it already was P2W. If it wasn’t yet, there could be plans for P2W, which was my gut feeling when I saw dark patterns in the game, which I recognized after looking into it a bit.

13·13 days agoDoes it have an offline single-player or offline anything? If it doesn’t, that’s live service, that’s not a game… it’d instead be a subscription-based shooter movie that you just so happened to be the protagonist of.

13·13 days agoYou seem to be projecting what looks to be a defense for a game that’s rigged against newbies. I’ve taken a look into the game, and figured it out for myself from watching some gameplay. Yes, it’s fantastic once you get the hang of it, but there’s EOMM that you have to deal with too, which is tame to other unethical matchmaking methods like MTXBMM.

138·14 days agoFrom the No Pay To Win Coalition’s review on Steam:
“Overall: 2/5*
Not recommended!
Likely to become a P2W, due to it being a GaaS game.
- Bad progression system, rigged against newbies.
Other issues:
- Cheaters
- GaaS
A low-poly Battlefield copy. ”
If it isn’t P2W as of right now, it will be that way. This also has to do with old-school ownership, as you’re paying for a license that will be revoked any time the devs feel like it.

129·14 days agoThe game is P2W, so of course there would be cheaters. There was an anti-cheat used in EAC, but that was bypassable, especially nowadays.

127·14 days agoI’d only play it if the game wasn’t P2W despite one having to pay for it. If P2W is removed, I’d consider it. Otherwise, don’t bet on me playing it anytime soon.

Games@lemmy.world•Is there any way of trying Battlefield 6 without buying it or paying £17 for a 1 month EA Play Pro subscription?English
222·17 days agoI don’t think that’ll be possible. I wouldn’t even buy BF6 because of Javelicrap (EA’s botnet akin to Activision’s Ricocrap), and why I’d want a rootkit on my system is beyond me (plus, Linux users are excluded from playing BF6 in the first place).
