Similar story here. I had a laptop running nVidia/Intel dual graphics for a few years and it was so fucking finicky. Primusrun this, optirun that. Ugh. Once upon a time, whenever I heard the word Optimus, I thought of transforming trucks with laser guns. Hearing that same word now puts me in a fetal position.

To any GeForce owners that are considering going Linux full time: do a test run first and see how it works out, because nVidia support on Linux is spotty at best.

All the more reason for this man to continue his good work. The drivers have clearly demonstrated that they care less about kids’ safety and care more about arriving at the next red light eight seconds sooner.

I have the Flydigi Vader 4 Pro with the USB dongle. And yes, it’s plug and play.

The only time an average person will care about privacy is when it’s taken away from them. Generally speaking, people just don’t care so don’t worry about it too much.

Previously, on Best of Netflix: price increases, flip-flopping on their account sharing stance (currently on “don’t do that”), removing shows without warning, iffy show recommendations by their algorithm, inability to watch shows offline etc.

So, if you’re not already pirating at this point I have to ask: what are you waiting for? Seriously, why are you giving these companies money?

I tried arguing against this, but it’s no use. I tried pointing out how something can be branded illegal retroactively, like 20 years down the line, I tried the “give me your credit card info” approach, nothing took. 90% of the time the counter-argument is usually something to the effect of “big companies know everything about me anyway”, which is just guessing on their part.

I’m just going to take care of my own privacy, because I’m clearly in the minority (present company excluded, of course). Almost everyone I know disregards online privacy completely, so I’m done trying to get a dialogue going with these people; it’s every man for himself. The only way online privacy will become a hot topic among laymen is when something nasty happens and at that point, it will have been too late.

It’s not chat apps that are making things worse, it’s the various companies and organizations using these apps for support channels instead of easily searchable software like forums.
